Evelyn Beth Day

Evelyn Beth Humphrey Day, 79, of Chesapeake Ohio, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, surrounded by her family. Beth was born on May 5, 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin Glenn and Janet June Thompson Humphrey, as well as her beloved husband, Larry Eugene Day Sr. Beth’s favorite childhood memories were of times spent in her parent’s general store, Humphrey’s Grocery, located in Getaway, Ohio. She met her high school sweetheart, Larry Day, when she was a freshman and he a junior at Chesapeake High School. They dated throughout high school and were married for over 50 years. They have two children, Larry (Kim) and Timothy (Mindi); five grandchildren, Joshua, Hannah, Eli, Alex, and Alexis; three great-grandchildren, Owen, Annie, and Lincoln. Beth is also survived by a sister, Karen Ellis and was loved by numerous nieces and nephews. Beth’s passion in life was her family. She took great pride in being a godly wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a loving mother to two sons who thought she walked on water. She made sure they had home cooked meals when they were growing up. She could be found at all their ball games. She had fond memories of Larry and Tim’s friends. Beth’s grandchildren affectionately referred to her as “Mawmaw B”. She always made them feel special and loved. She enjoyed welcoming their friends for “weekends at the farm”. Mawmaw B was known to spoil her grandchildren with special meals, cookies, and ice cream. Recently, she began sneaking Peppermint Patties to her great-grandchildren when no one was watching. Her grandchildren often remarked that she was “The World’s Best Mawmaw”. She also found great pleasure in her flower garden. Roses were her favorite, although she loved (and could raise) almost any flower. An enjoyment of hers that surprised many who knew her was her love of the Cincinnati Reds. Her family thought she watched the Reds because her husband always had them on the television. But later in life, she seldom missed watching a Reds game. She even kept up with the names of all the current players and scheduled her daily routine to be able to watch the games. In her later years, Beth struggled with health issues related to cancer. However, she never complained nor allowed her spirit to be broken. She lived with dignity and a determination to enjoy every day until the Lord called her home. When the time came for her to transition from this earth to her new home, she welcomed the news with joy and peace. Beth said she was ready to meet her Savior and to be reunited with her husband. Her sons were by her side holding her hands as she left this world. She will be greatly missed but we would not want to bring her back from joy she is currently experiencing. We love you mom, MawMaw B. See you soon. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to The James Cancer Center (OSU), The American Cancer Society or your local Hospice Center. Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, OH, with Pastor Jeff Cremeans, officiating.
