Gary LaFon

Gary LaFon, 77, of South Point, OH, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, WV. Born in Westerly, Rhode Island, on September 17, 1946, Gary was the beloved son of the late Sherman and Dorothy LaFon. He was preceded in death by 'the love of his life' Linda LaFon. Despite the brevity of their time together on earth, Gary and Linda filled their days with adventure, travel, and cherished moments that created a lifetime of memories. Gary is survived by his four children: Bambi (Gerry) Sowards, Eric (Leanna) LaFon, Gary "G" (Natasha) LaFon, and Sherman (Rachel) LaFon. His legacy extends through his eight grandchildren: Patrick (Deloris) Aaron, Jared, Ethan, Mallory, Alexis, Cydney, and Braxton, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Gabe, and Emmy. Gary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for six years, a period he held dear to his heart and spoke of with great pride. Following his honorable service, he returned to Huntington where he dedicated more than 20 years of his life as a crane operator at the Nickle Plant. Gary will be deeply missed by his many friends, especially his 'brother from another mother' OC Tacket. He cherished his bowling family, spending countless hours at the various alleys with those he considered friends. Gary had a special bond with his bowling community, treating them as family and sharing in their achievements and challenges. A loving father, Gary was devoted to his children. He coached them when they were young and if he wasn't coaching, he was always cheering them on during their sporting events. He was a pillar of support and mentorship to many, offering guidance and assistance whenever needed. Gary had a heart of gold, always willing to lend an ear or a helping hand to anyone in need. His genuine kindness and compassion touched the lives of all who knew him. Gary leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and kindness that will be cherished by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, June 14, 2024, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, OH.
