Jason Andrew Langham

Jason was so many wonderful things to so many people, loving devoted father, a loving, doating and amazing husband, partner, soul mate, best friend, loving loyal son and brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, family man, teller of inappropriate jokes, sender of memes(even if only from across the room), teller of cool stories, adventurer, traveler, sailor, techy nerd guy, practical jokester, dart player, drinks buyer, hardworking, and best hug giver. Jason loved playing with his kids and having them around him. He always said "we don't have step kids in this house....just our kids." He was so very proud of all of his kids and the wonderful people they were all becoming. He was on top of the world to become a Pops. He dearly loved his friends...he thought of them all as just extended family and cared for them as such. He was always quick with a joke or sarcastic comment to lighten the mood or brighten a day. He always said "There was this one time in band camp...." was sure to get a laugh or a smile. He loved being with others and just having a good time whether it was going to dinner, hanging out with friends, playing darts or even just sitting on our front porch watching to sunset. He was always ready and willing to go above and beyond to help anyone in need. He loved giving anyone giant bear hugs and making others happy. Jason served his country for many years in the U.S. Navy. During his first years enlisted he was blessed with his beautiful daughter Abigail birth. He loved her dearly and was very proud of her Real Estate career and was overjoyed when she and Matt were married. During his time in the Navy Jason worked in his primary role as an Electronics Technician. His naval career took him abroad to Kosovo where he was part of the NATO efforts there, Afghanistan, Iraq where he did his duty as the expeditionary forces in the Global War on Terror and stationed for a couple years in Naples, Italy. He loved to tell stories of being in Italy and the simple life that they have there. He received many award from the Navy and for his service including the Navy Cross, United Nations Medal, Good Conduct Medal (5 times), National Defense Medal (2 times) Navy Achievement Medal (5 times), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Coast Guard Meritorious Medal, Overseas Service Medal (5 times) and others. He was proud but very humble about his service. When Jason returned from overseas he was stationed in Puerto Rico for a while and then was stateside in Jacksonville/Mayport Fl. Jason as blessed 3 more times while living in Fl with the births of Natasha, Vivica and Gunner. He was so very proud of Natasha and excited for her senior year this year. He often reminisced about his senior year and the fun they had and hoped her's would be as fun. He was proud the learn that Vivica in her Sophomore year was already the Captain of the Flag Corp with the Marching Band. He always said how much he knows she will take charge of the world. He often laughed and joked that Gunner was going to outwit us all with his amazing computer skills and would tease him about "hacking" often and always said what a great kid he is and that they all are. From Jacksonville, Jason was reassigned to Norfolk, Va. Once honorably discharged Jason moved back to Huntington, WV to be near his mom. He began working for Marathon Petroleum, again doing the IT Techy nerd thing he loved to tinker with. After many twists and turns that life gave him Jason gained another daughter through the foster system. He always said that Stephanie was stronger than her knew and when she sets her mind to it, she can do anything. He was so proud to stand next to her and John as they married and started their life together. He was totally over the moon at the arrival of Lily and so worried about his "girls" during her delivery. He was "that" grandparent that loved to show pictures of her to everyone. He loved being her Pops. In 2018, he and Mendy were married and he gained 2 more children to love. He never thought of Riley or Ella as a step-child....we don't have those he said...we only have kids and he love them all fiercely. He was so very proud to watch Riley graduate and start his career as an Electrician and often said "that boy is gonna go places you wait and see". He loved playing with Ella and teasing her, he absolutely loved when she snuggled up to him. He was very proud of her being a Girl Scout and loved seeing her art work and waiting to see what she'd paint next. Jason will be tremendously missed by those who knew and loved him. There will forever be a blank spot in our hearts that will never be filled. His love and kindness can never be replaced. He was an truly an amazing human and a sweet gentle soul. Jason Andrew Langham, 49, of Catlettsburg, KY passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021. He was born March 24, 1972, in Huntington, WV. He is survived by his wife, Melinda Legge Langham; children, Abigail (Matthew) Sandy of Parkersburg, WV, Stephanie (John) Hafzalla of Arlington, VA, Natasha Langham, Vivica Langham and Gunner Langham, Riley Cartmill all from Columbus, Ohio, and Ella Cartmill of Ashland, KY; one grandchild Liliana Hafzalla; his mother June Langham of Huntington, WV; and one brother Ted (Suzanne) Langham of Broken Arrow, OK. His father, Karl Eugene Langham preceded him in death. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during Global War on Terrorism where he was the recipient of many outstanding military awards and honors. He was a member of the DAV and Eagles. He was a former employee of Marathon Petroleum. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, August 16, 2021, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio with Pastor Brady Lipscomb officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, WV. The flag presentation will be conducted by The Marine Corps League of Huntington, WV.
