Mark was a great teammate at WVU

My deepest sympathy in the loss of Mark. I mostly competed against Mark in basketball growing up, but have a great memory of being his teammate and winning the Buddy Ball All Stars together with other friends back in 1962. Trust me, it was easier to be his teammate than to compete against him. He was so skilled. During his junior or senior year at WVU, the Mountaineers played at Notre Dame where I was in school. As fate would have it, a big snowstorm hit South Bend and the WVU team couldn't leave town. I invited Mark and a couple of his teammates to go out after the game. It was great fun to get to really talk with Mark and reminisce about growing up in Huntington. I have fond memories of Mark's brother and parents. My prayers are with all the family. I don't know how the afterlife works, and can't imagine heaven not having some kind of friendly competition. If it does, big brother Joe's pickup team just got got a lot stronger!

I was very sad to hear of Mark's passing. Growing up in Huntington, I was great friends with Mark and especially his brother, Joe. The whole Dawson family was most gracious and an important part of my life. I will always remember the many evenings spent playing basketball in the Dawson backyard. Over the years I have lost touch with the Dawson's but their association will always be one of the happiest places in my memories. Rest in Peace, Mark.

We just learned of Mark's passing. We are grieved for Mark, his family and for his Mom and Dad - Joe and Connie. As the Erwine's commented, the Dawson family have been major contributors to my growing up. First on Roby Rd. where we played basket ball in Joe's backyard. Early memories recall Joe Senior taking Joe and me to the state football championship and watched Bluefield play Parkersburg team. Wonderful friends. our deepest sympathy in the loss of both their sons. We look forward to talking to you soon. Love, Sam & Jackie

Prayers for you Susie I know he has been very sick for awhile but he is no longer suffering and I pray you have peace in knowing that.

So sorry to hear of Mark's passing. He and Joe were such good friends to my brother Don and me when we were growing up. His parents Joe Sr. and Connie were so wonderful as well, taking me along in the backseat of their car with Mark to see out of town HEHS football and basketball games in which Joe and Don were playing.

So sorry to hear of Mark's passing. He was a classmate and was liked by everyone- just an all-around great guy with that terrific smile. My sincere condolences to the family.
