Kenneth Andrew Mason

Kenneth Andrew Mason "Big Andy" of Ashland, KY passed away February 7,2022 at his home. He was born in Huntington, WV on March 27,1984 to the late Jack Mason and Teresa (Bradshaw) Mason. He was also preceded in death by his brother Michael J. Kennedy, his grandparents Kenneth and Shelba Dishman, Andrew and Ruby Mason, and also many great aunts and great uncles. He is survived by Amy Gundy Mason the love of his life, his sister Jacki Mason (Rick) Woods of Huntington, WV; a niece Zowie Rollins of Chesapeake, OH; two nephews Chad Kennedy of Huntington, WV and Josh Blair of Chesapeake, OH; aunt Betty Duncan of Huntington, WV; uncle Charles (Dottie) Mason of Lawton, OK; special family Charlene (Alex) Kirsch of South Point, OH, Tammy Hissom Kennedy of Huntington, WV and Pam (Bobby) Holley of Chesapeake, OH. He also has a host of cousins, extended family, and friends too numerous to mention. Andy's personality was larger than life. He was very smart and resourceful. He was always able to make everyone smile and laugh. He never met a stranger and if you were ever around him you knew that. Our sibling bond was one I will cherish and miss so much. Andy was not perfect and he knew he had faults. He battled with addiction, like so many, including myself, for more years of his life than he didn't. My brother was not a bad person, he did make bad decisions, as many of us do. I know he wished things would have gone differently for him at so many times in his life. As many have seen his faults, I also know many that have seen the selfless part of him that would help people when he could, with whatever he could. Trauma, grief, and loss have seemed to devastate our family for as long as I can remember. People deal with these in many different ways. Addiction, in this instance, is a result of trauma. My brother was so much more than the way he died. He was not just another "addict who overdosed". He was a husband, brother, son, grandson, uncle, cousin, friend, and a child of God. Andy would want people to know that there is help for those that are suffering with anything involving addiction/trauma/loss. Whether it is you, a loved one, a friend, or a family member there are many resources in our area including support groups, treatment, and Harm Reduction. I would love to help even one person in honor of my brother and I feel he would want the same. We should not be losing so many people to this devastating disease.
