Earl and I both graduated from Chesapeake High School many years ago. Earl in 1948 and me in 1950 -- so we go back many years. I hated to miss his service, but I'm in the midst of a health crisis and was unable to attend. Maybe we can sing in the heavenly choir together later on -- we sang together in the Fifth Ave Baptist Church Choir a few years ago. I'll sure miss him. Mary & I are sorry for your loss.
Earl was one of a kind. He always had a smile on his face. I was a neighbor for many years and did a 16-minute documentary on his Korean War service and his amiable character. So sorry for the family's and friends' loss of such a beautiful soul.
I didn't know Earl personally, but I know a few of those in VFW Post 6878 in Proctorville did who speak so fondly of him. He had stopped going to the meetings there long before I became active there. The Post Honor Guard will be there for him.
The other day, as I sat with Quartermaster Gerald Bloss and we discussed this American hero, he shared a video of Earl's life and his time in the Army and the Korean War. The video gave me an idea of who this kind soul was and what he went through in those times... Wow! How wonderful it would have been to sit and rub elbows with him and hear his stories.
