Alan O. Williamson's Obituary
Alan O. Williamson, 73, of Proctorville, Ohio passed away on October 8th, 2020 at the Hershel "Woody" Williams VA Medical Center after a short and aggressive illness. He was born on August 5, 1947 in Huntington, WV. Alan graduated from Huntington East High School in 1965 and went on to join the United States Air Force Security Service, the Air Force's cryptographic intelligence branch, where he served in both Vietnam and the Philippines. The USAFF was a secretive and tight-knit branch of Air Force Cold War warriors tasked with monitoring, collecting, and interpreting military voice and electronic signals of countries of interest. Alan loved life and enjoyed time with his family and friends and attended Walnut Hills Church of the Nazarene in Huntington, WV, where his parents first took him to worship. He had an insatiable appetite for sweet tea and dark chocolate, and never could pass up a good deal. He raised German Shepherds for years and had a passion for antique clocks, classic cars, and good looks. As a car enthusiast, he not only loved to buy, restore, and show cars with the Jewel City Street Rods car club and beyond, but he was employed in sales and financing in the car industry for many years, as well. Eventually retiring from Hamilton Chevrolet, he was one of those guys who could sell ice to an Eskimo, as they say. Alan is survived by his loving wife Carolyn (Journell) Williamson, a daughter Lori Ann (Shawn) Hawks of Vinton, Ohio (Sherry Paugh, her mother), and a son Joshua (Rebecca Littlejohn) Williamson of Proctorville, Ohio (Joy Miller, his mother); step-children Michelle (Billy) Shafer, Kimberlea (Scott) Poston, Kristie Dunfee, and Garry Allen Byrd (Huntington, WV); grandchildren Jesse, Hannah, and Lillian Hawks (Vinton, OH) and Lawson Williamson (Proctorville, OH); three step grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sister-in-law Carole Williamson and niece Dolores Williamson (Proctorville, OH). Alan was preceded in death by two infant sons Shawn and Scott Williamson, his parents Otto and Evelyn (Giffin) Williamson (Huntington, WV), and half-brother Arlen Williamson (Proctorville, Ohio). Friends and family may join us at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, OH for a visiting hour prior to a memorial service at 2:00 with Pastor Fred McCarty and Dennis Frashier, a good friend and served in the Air Force with him, officiating. A full military funeral service will follow at the Rome Cemetery in Proctorville, Ohio. We ask that visitors prepare to don masks and maintain a respectful distance as we continue to be concerned with the health and safety of all those around us in the current climate of COVID-19 while we celebrate the life of our loved one. Today is a gift, and tomorrow is promised to no one. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Alans name to the Salvation Army in Huntington, WV. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, OH, is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at ehallfuneralhome.com. Visitation HALL FUNERAL HOME
