Albert Joseph Schneider's Obituary
Albert Joseph Schneider (aka Al, Alby, Snork, Hose Nose, Crapaw), of Proctorville, died at age 74 on December 18, 2023. He was born January 27, 1949, at his grandparents' home in Chillicothe OH, to Albert and Rita Schneider, both of whom predeceased him.He spoke fondly of growing up in Chillicothe, working on local farms in Ross County, and fishing up and down Paint Creek with his brothers and uncles from "the camp".Al graduated from Bishop Flaget High School in Chillicothe in 1967. He attended Ohio University, Chillicothe, before serving 2 years in the United States Army. Later he graduated from University of Rio Grande, in Rio Grande OH.His professional career was with the United States Postal Service. He took an early retirement from USPS in 1992, when he was serving as Postmaster at Proctorville OH, after which he worked in his several thousand Christmas trees, and started The Sign Company, making sand-blasted redwood signs, later to become esigns4u.com, a glass etching business.Al was an avid reader and prided himself in his vocabulary. He was quite a storyteller and often was the life of the party keeping everyone laughing. He enjoyed camping, music, photography, pets, fishing, family gatherings, and giving people nick-names.In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by two brothers, Joe (Susan) Schneider and Chris (Debbie) Schneider, of Chillicothe. He is survived by his wife of over 37 years, Linda Schneider, of Proctorville; four children, Amy Jo (Geoff) Bothun, of West Kingston RI, Jennifer (Darren) Tuck, of Clay City KY, Kerry Burge, of Proctorville OH, and Eric Fizer, of Proctorville. He was blessed with six grandchildren who will carry on his legacy: Gregory Walters, Sam Burge, Olivia Burge, Isabelle Joan Bothun, Madelyn Fizer, and Gavon Sanchez, and five great-grandchildren as well. He is also survived by three siblings, Nick (Rhonda) Schneider, of Casselberry FL, Margaret (Ray) Nordhagen, of Grove OK, and Terry (Randy) Hughes, of Canton MO. Surviving also are Chris Burge, of Corinth KY, Susie Schneider, of Clay City KY, his Conzett Family: Patty Conzett, of Randleman NC, Rob (Bill Blaauw) Conzett, of Pittsfield MA, and Tim (Cheryl) Conzett, of Proctorville OH, and many nieces and nephews, whom he teased mercilessly in their younger years. The family would like to recognize and thank the staff of Legacy Riverview (Heartland). They treated Al like a member of their own families, visiting him when they weren't working, bringing him gifts, and spending time with him just talking and laughing. He never once complained about his care.We also want to thank Al's long-time roommate, James. James kept watch over Al and generously offered to share everything he had. Finally, we offer our gratefulness to Heartland Hospice. Words cannot describe how kind, helpful, and caring they all were, especially Darren Reedy, Al's hospice case worker. He and Dr. Apgar (serves both Heartlands) clearly have a gift for compassionate care of others. It is a blessing to know Al is at rest. From Desiderata, one of his favorite writings - "No doubt the universe is unfolding as it should."A memorial service will be held January 27, 2024, 11:00 am, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 721 12th Ave, Huntington WV. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ehallfuneralhome.com
