Archie Carey's Obituary
Archie Carey, 94, of Huntington, WV, September 24, 1927- December 15, 2021 passed away at home.
He was born to Lucian and Margaret Carey and brother to six other siblings who preceded him in death, also his twin brother who passed away after birth.
He is survived by his wife Lona King Carey of Huntington, WV; four children, Teresa Barrett of Wichita, KS, Archie Carey, Jr. of Louisa,Ky, Tawana Motz of Lavalette, WV, Tammy Alexander of Oakdale, CA; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Many things can be said about Archie, but the most important he was a Christian, a follower of Jesus. "The best sermon preached is one lived out" and he did just that. He studied God's word every day for hours as long as he was able and then he listened to it. He was intent on living out what he read.
Archie was kind, serving, giving, loving. Anyone who knew Archie will have a precious memory of him. Always had a smile, wherever he was, but especially when people came to visit. Archie was always excited for people to come visit and to sit beside him and talk about whatever, but he mostly loved talking about the Bible.
Archie had a great memory of things past and could tell everyone about a lot of interesting things. There were many times if some of the family could not remember something we would go to him and say "do you remember" and he would!
He was an avid hunter, and yes, we ate what he killed.....rabbit, squirrel, deer. He took every opportunity to share his love of hunting with the family. If they were interested, he would take them up on the hill and teach them how to shoot his bow and arrow, and sometimes target practice with gun. There are precious memories for the ones who participated.
Dad was a strong man in years past, but time and age had a way of changing all of that, especially at the age of 94. It was painful for all of us to watch his decline, but he had a devoted loving wife who took care of his every need to the last minute.
Archie has touched many lives with his wonderful Christian example, family, friends, and acquaintances. He is gone but his legacy will continue. We are at peace to know that he is in the arms of his loving Savior, no more suffering. You are loved and will be missed, but never forgotten.
There will be a graveside service at a later date.
