Argus “Jay” Sammons Jr., 78, of Huntington, WV, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026, at The Wyngate Senior Living Community in Barboursville, WV. Born on January 16, 1948, in Lawrence County, OH, he was the son of the late Argus and Miranda Perry Sammons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Virginia Sammons; 3 brothers, Stephen Sammons, Richard Neal Sammons, and Keith Sammons, and sister, Ethel Freeman. Jay was retired from AK Steel and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He is survived by his son, Jason Sammons; daughter, Trina (Gene) Williams; grandchildren, Laura (Michael) McComas and Joshua (Jessica) Jones; 6 great-grandchildren, Cortnie, who called him Granddaddy Longlegs, Alexis, Elisha, Jeremiah, Justin, and Jayden; 3 brothers, David Eugene (Jean) Sammons, Bruce Wayne (Shawny) Sammons, and Douglas Sammons; 2 sisters, Jeanette Sammons and Linda Sammons; great-great-grandchildren, Xaiden and Lyla, his pretty little girl, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, OH. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Miller Memorial Gardens in Miller, OH. The family would like to give a special thank you to Wyngate and their staff.
