Artelia MaryAnn Trotter's Obituary
Artelia MaryAnn Meadows Trotter of Huntington, West Virginia was born on May 31, 1927 in Guyandotte, West Virginia. She was the youngest child of the late Virgil Clayton and Rhoa Hunter Meadows. She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Janie F. Thompson, Virgil "VC" Meadows, Lillian M. Meadows and William "Met" Meadows; and her son, Thomas A. Trotter, III. After 90 years she transitioned peacefully on July 22, 2017 at Eastbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Artelia attended public schools in Guyandotte and Huntington, West Virginia and graduated from Douglass High School. She met and later married Thomas A. Trotter. From that union they had nine children. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member in the church until she was not physically able to do so. Even then, she participated in the telephone ministry; calling members, doing wellness checks and spreading the Joy of Christ. Artelia was a domestic goddess and had one of the most challenging jobs in the world. A devoted and loving mother not only to her own children, but to countless children in the neighborhood. She was an awesome cook who welcomed and delighted many at the dinner table. She made Sunday and holidays dinners something to look forward to all week, especially her pound cakes!! Many fond memories were made and many problems were solved while sitting at Ms. Tee's kitchen table. "Tee/Ms. T", as she was lovingly known by family and friends was a sweet, very wise and gentle soul. For those fortunate enough to be in the Trotter "clan", she was simply "The Game Warden". She will be sorely missed and most remembered for her caring nature, generosity, warm smile and sweet demeanor. Most importantly, she will be remembered for being the best and loving mother, grandmother and friend. Artelia is survived by her children, devoted daughter Dianne and son-in-law Rance Berry of Poca, WV; Tony (Doris) Trotter of Snellville, GA; Sharon Trotter of Columbus, OH; Sylvia Trotter of Snellville, GA; Barry (Joyce) Trotter of Norcross, GA; Todd (Tiffany) Trotter of Columbus, OH; and devoted sons Kirk and Kim Trotter of Huntington, WV. Additionally, she leaves behind 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, 4 great, great-grandchildren; her very special niece, Shirley Jean Wise of Detroit, MI and a host of relatives and friends.
