Barbara Baker's Obituary
Barbara Baker, 87, of Chesapeake, Ohio, died Friday, January 9, 2026. Widow of the
late Dr. Carl T. Baker, she was born January 1, 1939, in Morgantown, West Virginia, the
daughter of the late Charles Glenn Sanders and Frances Mossburg Sanders.
She graduated from Morgantown High School and proudly supported her family as a
telephone operator while her husband completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
After assisting her husband in establishing his practice, Chesapeake Veterinary Clinic,
she was a homemaker, a volunteer at the Chesapeake Community Center, and a
member of the Chesapeake Methodist Church. She also was a substitute grandma for
several children over the years.
She is survived by four children, Carla and Gary McCague, of Parker, Colorado; Sandra
Baker of Chesapeake, Ohio; Charles Baker of Chesapeake, Ohio; and Donna Baker of
Natchitoches, Louisiana; and eight grandchildren, Mark Baker of Charleston, West
Virginia, Courtney Baker, Kaitlyn Baker, Michael Cardone, and Gizzy of Grove City,
Ohio; Josiah Baker of Chesapeake, Ohio; Barbara McCague, Brittany McCague, and
Brianna McCague, all of Parker, Colorado; great grandsons Caden Baker and Silas
Baker and their mother Shawna Wood of Chesapeake, Ohio. She is also survived by
her sister-in-law Betty Sanders, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Wesley Baker; her parents; brothers John
Lambert, Glenn Sanders, and Ronald Sanders; and sister Joan Woodford.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at Chesapeake Methodist Church at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, you may consider a donation to Hospice of Huntington or to
Community Mission Outreach. Also, please consider honoring Barbara through acts of
community service, especially reading to children. Schneider Hall Funeral Home in
