Barbara Joan Rutledge's Obituary
Barbara M. Rutledge, of Proctorville, Ohio, passed away January 30, 2024, at the age of 88. She was widow of Eldon L. who passed away in December 2014. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald E. and Mabel McCluer; brother, Jerry; brother-in-law, Hugh "Ed"; granddaughter, Amy; nephew, Andy, and niece, Winona Beth. She is survived by her son, Walter (Gayle) Rutledge; daughter, Connie (Victor) Rutledge Riquelme; grandchildren, Andrew, Kellie (Jody), and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jayden, Justin, Savannah (Bailey), Noah and Helena; siblings, Marilyn and Gene (Jean); sister-in-law, Janet; great-great-grandchildren, Thea, and Ellis; nieces and nephews, Scott, Kevin (Lisa) and Kathryn (Joe); great nieces and nephews, Kaleb, Joshua, Alex, Andrew, Megan, Molly (Logan), and great-great-nephew, Bryson. Barbara was born in Allen County, OH, to the late Gerald E. and Mabel McCluer. She graduated Harrod High School and worked at Singer Sewing Mach Co Store, Circle Diamond Federal Credit Union, and AAA. In 1974 she began working for Fairland Local School District as a Paraprofessional Aide, retiring in 1999. She was a member of First Families of Allen County, OH, Buford Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution in Huntington, WV, having served as Chapter Regent and Registrar, and many other offices; WVDAR State Secretary for 3 years and WVDAR State Treasurer for 4 years. She was an associate member of Capt. James Lawrence DAR Chapter in OH, Ohio First Families, Charter member of KYOWA/A Genealogical Soc. Co-editor of newsletter 1978-1986, charter member of Lawrence County OH Genealogical soc. And served as co-editor of their newsletter, LAWCO LORE 1984-1989. Barbara was a member of the Ohio Genealogical Society, National Genealogical Society and their Computer Interest Group, Alumni of National Institute on Genealogical Research of Washington, DC, helped publish and manuscript and a diary of a Marion County, OH, Judge, as well as a genealogy or two. She was a graduate of the National Archives Institute on Genealogical Research and completed course II at the Institute of Genealogical and Historical Research at Samford University in Birmingham, AL in 1992. She was on the committee to publish the Lawrence County, OH, History Book I and II and taught classes in genealogy to 6th graders, 4-H'ersl adults, chaired a full day computer/genealogy workshop; held a computer workshop and five genealogy classes for Ohio University Education. Barbara was a judge for the Lawrence County fair 4-H genealogy project and served as District Trustee for Ohio Genealogical Society. She studied Genealogy at the Washington DC Archives and attended many genealogical workshops and seminars over the years. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, OH, with Pastor Rodney Carter, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at 12:00 P.M. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Salem Cemetery in Westminster, OH.
