Betsy White Ratcliff 1940 - 2017
Betsy White Ratcliff, age 77, of Proctorville, Ohio, passed away October 22, in St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington. She is predeceased by her father, Val White and her mother, Evelyn Helliesen White, both of Wausau, Wisconsin. Betsy was a graduate of Wausau High School in Wausau, Wisconsin and Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in Baltimore, Maryland. She initially worked as a Public Health Nurse in Cleveland, Ohio. Later, Betsy became involved with the American Red Cross as a volunteer and eventually as the Chapter Manager in Huntington. As an American Red Cross volunteer, she taught classes and worked in disaster services. She coordinated relief efforts for many natural disasters across several states. She authored the American Red Cross Emergency Training Program and assisted in the rewriting of the Disaster Health Services Regulations book. Betsy also enjoyed serving her community as a founding member of Contact of Huntington and council member for the West Virginia State Advisory Council for the Education of Exceptional Children (1974-1977). She volunteered at her church, Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, as a Sunday school teacher and on several committees. Betsy had numerous hobbies that she enjoyed with her family which included music, cooking, traveling, her dogs, and arts & crafts with her grandchildren. She fulfilled her dream of living on a farm and enjoyed gardening, riding her John Deere tractor and tending the goats and chickens. Betsy is survived by her husband, Dr. Gilbert A Ratcliff, Jr of Proctorville, OH. She is also survived by her three daughters Lenore Ratcliff Tweel (Robert) of Charleston, WV, Leah Ratcliff Horton (Tre) of Roswell, GA, and Lynn Ratcliff Sedki (Alec) of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren, Kathryn Tweel, Emily Tweel, William Horton, Andrew Horton, Mary Caroline Sedki, and Carter Sedki; as well as her sister, Carol White Dietmeyer of Madison, WI. Visitation will be Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, OH. Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday at Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, Huntington.
