Betty L. Carter, 94, of Huntington, WV passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV. She was born November 26, 1925 in Montgomery, WV daughter of the late Charles and Irene Grey Oakley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Hughes and Coburn J. Carter; a son, Leroy White Thompson; a daughter, Lydia White; a son Robert Hughes, and grandson Christopher Hughes. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Charles Hughes, Sr (Brenda Scott); grandchildren, Corey Leeth, Charles Hughes, Jr (Christy Hughes), Charlana Hughes, Thomas White (Gracie Harmon), Justin Hughes (Deidra Hughes) and Brandon Hughes; a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; special friends and family, Theresa Hughes, Lillian Hill, Joyce Thomas, Julia Taylor, Tony Crozier and Phillip Thompson. Betty was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired from FW Means (Coyne Textile). Sister Betty was the Matriarach of the family. She was well known in the community and she loved everyone and welcomed everyone with a smile on her face. She will be truly missed by many! The family is appreciative to all who showed love to Betty! A special thanks to Bishop Samuel Moore/Full Gospel Assembly, Hospice of Huntington, and First Baptist, Huntington, WV. We Thank You….”A bushel and a peck”. Funeral service will be conducted 12 noon Saturday, July 11, 2020 at First Baptist Church, Huntington, WV. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington, WV. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Justin Hughes, John Hughes, Jason Hughes, Jordan Dennison, Jayron Washington and Shaquan Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Thompson and Dennis Jones.
