Brooksie JoAnn Bentley's Obituary
Brooksie JoAnn Bentley, 88, of Proctorville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2025. She was born on August 18, 1936, to the late Bessie Tolliver and Elsie Bentley in Jamboree, Ky. She is survived by her beloved dog, Mya, daughter, Tamatha Stirling, son in law, Jimmy Gauze, her sunshine, Breahna Stirling, son, Anthony Felice, grandchildren, Ron Lovins, Kristina Lovins Hernandez, Sean Lovins, Curtis Lovins, Alex Lovins, John Felice and Madison Walters, great grandchildren Kami Dempsey, Zoey Jennings, Sebastian Lovins, Raegan Depontes, Nixon, Lincoln and Hayes Hernandez and her dear friend Lola Adkins. JoAnn was a woman of resilience, compassion and unmatched strength. She raised her children as a single mother with unwavering love and determination. She met each day with unshakable commitment to providing a stable, loving home filled with warmth, guidance and unconditional love. She worked for the Department of Human Resources for 28 years as a social worker for both children and adult protective services. Her job wasn’t just a profession but her soul’s calling. A path she walked with grace, devotion and great empathy. It wasn’t recognition she sought but safety for a child, dignity for an elder, a chance at healing a broken home. She gave her all because she knew the stakes were human lives. Although the system was imperfect, she fought within it, and sometimes against it, to make things right. JoAnn is now reunited with her daughter, Denise Lovins, son, Ron Lovins, granddaughter, Amber Felice and all her loved ones that passed before her. True to her humble nature, JoAnn requested that no formal services be held. Her family honors that wish and invites those who knew and loved her to remember in their own personal way— by sharing a story, offering kindness, or simply holding her in their hearts. Joann was a light in this world— strong, steady, and full of love. Though she is no longer with us physically, her legacy of genuine compassion, courage, and care lives on in all who were very blessed to know her.
