Candy Holley's Obituary
Candy Mae Holley, 8/6/1944-12/28/2024, of Proctorville, OH, went home into the arms of her SAVIOR Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV. Candy was the daughter of the late Frank “Hylo” Brown and Bessie Brown Thornburg and her stepfather, James Thornburg. She was preceded in death by her son, Jay “Jeff” Holley of Ft. Mitchell, KY. Candy is survived by the love of her life, Jay Holley. They were married for 60 years, a daughter, Amy (Mike) Crum of Orlando, FL; grandson, Jay Michael Crum of Orlando; 3 sisters, Vicki (Jerry) Mead of TX, Jami (Paul) Mehaffey of NC, and Sheila Brown; brother, Tim (Elizabeth) Brown of Springfield, OH; several nieces and nephews and a very special cousin, Brenda Webb.
Candy graduated from Chesapeake High School. She began her medical career at Cabell Huntington Hospital. From there, she was hired by Dr. John David Pitsenberger. When he left Huntington, she was hired by Dr. Thomas J. Conaty. As her husband’s job transfers progressed, she was hired by Dr. James Howard of Cumberland, MD, Dr. Harry Hamilton of Corbin, KY, and Dr. Everett Crouch of Jacksonville, FL.
She was employed for 39 years as a medical assistant and office administrator. She was an excellent cook, having won 2nd and 3rd place in the state of KY recipe contest. Candy loved decorating and crafts. Most important to her were her husband and family; they were her greatest joys in life. She was very organized and structured.
She was a Kentucky Colonel and a volunteer for Birth Right. Candy was affiliated with His Christian Cruisers, and Christian car group in Jefferson, IN, and Ohio Christian Cruisers. She was an auxiliary member of Gideons International.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Proctorville, Ohio, where she served as a former receptionist and was on a team committee who prepared bereavement dinners for folks who needed the team’s kindness.
The family would like to thank Dr. Patti Jo Marcum for being the best doctor anyone could have, Dr. Tony Pacioles and his nurse, Patricia Boswell, for taking care of her at the Edwards Cancer Center, the Infusion Center at Edwards Cancer Center, especially Miranda Rule, who would make her feel special and loved while taking care of her, Kristi and Kevin Halthorne for stopping by for visits and bringing food, Bruce and Janet Johnson for the hundreds of cards that were sent to her, her neighbors, Doug and Taunya Wilson, and Betsy and Eliza Wilson for the food and visits, Jerry McKnight, for being her prayer warrior, Kathy Bragg, a niece, and Judy Blankenship, a cousin, for their visits and fellowship; and last but certainly not least, Hospice of Huntington. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in memory of Candy to be made to the Gideons International at P.O. Box 687, Proctorville, OH 45669. We pray that someone will receive Jesus Christ through your donations.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Proctorville, with Pastor Jeff Black, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at 12:00 P.M. Candy will be laid to rest at Rome Cemetery in Proctorville. Pallbearers will be, from the Gideons, Bruce Johnson and Larry Napier; friends, Kevin Hawthorne and Mike Vance; son-in-law, Mike Crum and grandson, Jay Crum.
