Carlyle O. Lewis' Obituary
Carlyle O. Lewis, 67, of Proctorville, Ohio passed away peacefully at home with his family on Monday December 24, 2018. He was born October 25, 1951 in Huntington, WV to the late Otis and Berdina White Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers Clarence E. Lewis, Greg Lewis, Terry Lewis, Carroll Lewis, and Roger Dennison; and four sisters Leona Lewis, Joy Lewis Black, Cheryl Lewis, and Pam Lewis Wiley. Carlyle is survived by his wife Diana Dunford Lewis; two sons Dana Lewis and Jay Lewis; daughter Melissa Lewis; five grandchildren Peyton Lewis, Riley Reese, Devin Reese, Mattilynn Lewis, and Lorna Hill; two sisters Lois Lewis Patterson and Rhonda Dennison Mayes; special nephew Dana (Becky) Lewis; lifelong friend Charles Ward; and many other special relatives and friends. Family was very important to him. He worked hard to give them more than he ever had. He loved his grandchildren dearly. Many knew Carlyle as the hippie with the long braid and mustache, the practical joker or the person that liked to get under your skin. Life was never dull when he was around; he was always ready to shake things up, get a reaction, have fun. He has been “unfriended” by a few on facebook for his posts, which did not bother him at all. He liked to be different. He loved to travel and loved to drive. He had many occupations and went on many adventures. He was a mechanic/machinist for CSX. Some other ventures/occupations included driving for Amish, Antique shop owner, landlord, owner of llamas, emu, and rheas as well as his favorite goats and chickens. He volunteered and worked as Ring Steward at man llama shows. Carlyle served as coach, player agent, VP with Fairland Little League and volunteered at the City Mission. He drove a cab and never passed an opportunity to help someone. He didn’t brag about what he did but told of some of the sad things he saw, the people he carried groceries for as well as the people he helped to safety. He was not a church goer but believed in God. He lived life while finding opportunities to help others frequently, which came easy for him. He donated his body to the Human Gift Registry. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 3508 Stauton Ave, Charleston, WV 25304 or HospiceofHuntington.org, checks to Hospice of Huntington, Inc., PO Box 464, Huntington, wV 25709-0464. A memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday December 27, 2018 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio. Visitation will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday December 27, 2018 at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ehallfuneralhome.com.
