Carol Ann Chaffin

Carol Ann Chaffin, 67, of Huntington, WV, passed away at home after a prolonged illness leaving behind her loving and devoted husband of 36 years, Bill Chaffin. She was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a human resource specialist. She was born July 14, 1955 in Wayne, WV, a daughter to the late Leo and Odessa Mills. She was also proceeded in death by a sister, Wilma Jean (Sissy) Smith; brother-in-law, Earnest James Smith; sister-in-law, Sue Chaffin; brother-in-law, Don Queen; and her beloved son-in-law, Tim Shoemaker, all eagerly awaiting her arrival home with the Lord. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Allen (Dennine) Chaffin of Philadelphia, PA, Shannon Chaffin of Huntington, WV and her daughter, Tara Shoemaker of Proctorville, OH. She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren, Seth Chaffin, Kyle Chaffin, Jake Chaffin, Alex Chaffin, Ryan Chaffin, Madilyn Shoemaker, Victoria King and Caitlin King. As the matriarch to her family, she will be greatly missed. It was her goal to be involved and attend as many of their special events, games and school programs as possible. She was known for her cooking, so she always made it a point to also make their favorite meal or dessert for family get togethers. She is also survived by her brothers, Ray (Carol Sue) Mills, Herman (Judy) Mills, Carl Lee (Sandy) Mills, Timmy Dale (Thressa) Mills, Steve (Renee) Mills, Mark Mills; her sister Leota Queen and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved very much. Everyone that knew this family knew of the gatherings at the Mills Farm on Wilson's Creek. She especially loved the fall bonfire, Easter, and Christmas where 50-75 family members could be there at one time. The Mills family loved the fellowship of one another, so they continued to pass it down through the generations. Although Carol was very ill, she thoroughly enjoyed yet another family gathering one short week before her passing, which served to say a final goodbye. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to Covenant School, Hospice House of Huntington and the Huntington Area Food Bank which she lovingly supported regularly. There will be a funeral service held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Hall Funeral Home & Crematory in Proctorville, OH. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Huntington, WV.
