Carol Legg's Obituary
Carol Callicoat Legg, age 86, passed away Monday, July 7, 2020, at Lynchs Residential Home in Cedar Hill, Tennessee. Carol was born in Polkadotte, Ohio, on August 17, 1933, to the late Burke Callicoat and Iva Sowards Callicoat. She grew up in Athalia, OH and was a member of the first graduating class of the new Fairland High School in 1950. She completed business college studies and entered the banking business, first in Huntington, then in Chesapeake, OH. She and Leon lived and raised their 3 children, Morris, Bob and Janie, in Ohio, close to their families. They moved to Hollywood, Florida in 1967, where she continued her life-long career in banking. After a transfer to Jacksonville, FL to help establish an office of First Union Bank, she retired as a loan officer in the 1990s. After retirement, they moved to Tennessee in 1999 to be closer to two of her children. Her greatest joy in life was her family, always ensuring her children were able to be part of the activities they wanted and supporting them in achieving their goals. It was important to her that they all be college graduates and she was able to fulfill that dream. Her children knew how loved they were and how proud she was of their achievements. And when grandchildren came along, she was a loving and ever-present part of their lives as well. Vacations always included the entire family, with many beach trips where we all met together. She loved cats and always had one or more, beginning in childhood. Her latest faithful companion was her big 15 year old boy, Tigger, who now comfortably resides with Janie. If you wanted to brighten her day, just talk about cats! A life-long member of the Church of Christ, she was a founding member of the Rome, OH congregation, with her father constructing their first building. In Tennessee, she was a member of the Ashland City Church of Christ. The family sends a special thank you to the wonderful caregivers she has had, especially Sandy Davenport, Tina Lynch and all at Lynchs Residential Home. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon Legg; son, Robert Leon Legg; brother, Keith Callicoat; and sister, Ernestine Jones. She is survived by her son, Morris Legg (Meredeth); daughter, Janie Stone (Joe); grandchildren, Mary Ellen White (Justin), Mark Legg (Vanessa), Joanna and Marissa Stone; great-grandchildren, Jameson, Nolan and Warren White, Windley Legg and Jane Howse. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday July 11, 2020 Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, OH. Burial at Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial service in Ashland City, TN, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hialeah Church of Christ, Ashland City Church of Christ, or the Alzheimers Association.
