Carter Taylor Seaton's Obituary
Carter Taylor Seaton, 83, of Huntington WV passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024. She was born January 1, 1941 at 12:03 a.m. to the late Harvey Carter Taylor Jr., and Dorothy Frantz Taylor. She was a true New Years blessing to her parents. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her brother Harvey Carter Taylor III, and her oldest son Tony Seaton. Carter is survived by her husband Richard Cobb; three children Michael Seaton, Dorothy Ann Stinson(Scott), Jimmy(Kelly) Seaton; grandchildren: Kris(Hannah) Hillen, James Hillen, Jamie Christian(Tyler) Cole(Nyssa) Seaton, Kayla Gorrell(Isac), David(Brittany) Stinson, Quintin Dixon, Hannah Dixon; great-grandchildren: Maxwell Hillen, Cohen Christian, Sloan Christian, Harlow Christian, Lenny Gorrell, Isla Gorrell, Emily McDonald, Brady McDonald; the father of her children and lifelong friend Jim Seaton; and a host of other family, friends, and professional colleagues. Carter was a lifelong resident of Huntington except for a period of living in Columbus and Atlanta Georgia. After age 50, she ran several marathons, including the NY marathon, Marine Corp marathon, and several other races. She was a woman of many talents including an author, artist, potter and businesswoman. Carter wrote and published 9 books, and won numerous awards and honors including: Tamarack Foundation Fellowship Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts, West Virginia Library Association honored her with the 2014 WVLA Literary Merit Award, 2015 Marshall University’s College of Liberal Arts honored her with an Alumni Award of Distinction, 2016 she received the Governor’s Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts, and in 2023 she was inducted into the Huntington Wall of Fame. She graduated from Marshall University in 1982 with a Regent’s Degree in English and Business. The family would like to thank the 6th floor oncology staff at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society 1-888-557-7177, or to the Huntington Museum of Art 304-529-2701. There will be a Memorial Service held at 12 noon on January 4, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church 1015 5th Ave. Huntington, WV with Cinda Harkless officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. There will also be a Celebration of Life held later in the spring of 2025 as a more casual event. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory Proctorville, OH assisted the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ehallfuneralhome.com.
