Charles Leslie Copen's Obituary
Charles Leslie Copen age 88 went quietly to be with his Savior and Lord Thursday evening February 29, 2024 after a prolonged illness. His favorite verse was: 2 Timothy 1:12, For which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. It is a loss for his family but, as the apostle Paul stated, "It was gain for him". He was known as Charles to his late mother, Helen, but he was known as "Chuck" to everybody else. Chuck left behind his immediate family ;his wife Roberta (Mickey), two daughters ; Leslie Copen-Roush (Terry Roush) and Pamela Copen. Five grandchildren Iain and Lindsay Roush, (Hayes, Eliot and Naomi), Molly Roush; Griffin and Kaie Roush (Kain, Finn and Jack); Hilary and Steven Freeman (Zell); and Stuart Roush. Chuck was born October 6, 1935. to Helen and Jack Copen and grew up in Huntington except for a brief time in California where his father was employed as a ship builder and carpenter. He attended Huntington High School, and what was then called Marshall College. He was a long- time employee of Sears Roebuck as a soft line manager. Before that he worked for a myriad of businesses from serving hotdogs at Stewarts to being a delivery driver for the Kenny Shoe company. He also served in the Army Reserve where he obtained the rank of Sergeant. He married his wife, Roberta Anderson, 68 years ago on Christmas Eve 1955. He was a very faithful attendee and active member of Grace Gospel Church since 1954. He served that church in the Bus Ministry, Awana, Child Evangelism and other local ministries for years. The family would like to thank Joan Barker who spent many days helping care for him. Also Heartland Hospice of Lucasville, OH, Lisa Dillion R. N and Diane, his home health aide. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: Grace Gospel Church Missons, 1111 Adams Avenue, Huntington, WV 25704. There will be a private graveside service held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, OH is assisting the family with arrangements.
