Charles Raymond Smith's Obituary
Charles Raymond Smith, 72, of Proctorville, Ohio departed from this earth in the early morning of Tuesday, April 14, 2020 and reunited with the “love of my life” Linda Jean Smith in their Heavenly home. Happily married for 34 years, Linda has been preparing their Heavenly home for the past 17 years. He was born August 24, 1947 in Huntington, WV son of the late Robert Raymond and Edna Mae Tackett Smith. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Robert “Bob” Raymond Smith, Jr. He is survived by his children, Chuck (Kristie) Smith of Proctorville, Ohio and Christina (Mark) Carpenter of Michigan; grandchildren Arianna and Abiegail Smith, and Allie, McKinley and Keegan Carpenter; siblings Rosaline Crum, Patricia Ann Pinkerman, Billie Jo Slone, Susan Gail Murdock, Richard Lee Smith, Bernice Trimarco and Steve Allen Smith; ex-spouse who remained his close friend and support, Elizabeth Ann Smith; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, as he never met a stranger. In addition to his human family he had many beloved four legged buddies over the years. His favorite was a trusty dachshund, Dukie who preceded him in crossing the rainbow bridge. His current, buddy who he spoiled daily, is Sandy, a loving terrier mutt whom he and Ann rescued. He was a U.S. Air Force Vietnam Veteran and retired from the Huntington VA Medical Center. He enjoyed playing bluegrass music with his buddies, avid firearm and knife collector, watching the History channel and then educating the family as the “amateur historian” he was. Charlie was adamant that his family came first and foremost, and he worked long and hard to provide for each and everyone of them. He taught his children, and anyone else who would listen, the importance of taking care of your family and loving one another through the good, the bad, the easy and the tough. His son, Chuck, became his caregiver the past few weeks and was holding his hand as he took his final flight. Godspeed, Pops! Aim High Til we reunite! Private funeral service will be conducted Friday, April 17, 2020 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio.
