Chester Leon Young's Obituary
Chester Leon "Popeye" Young, 87, of Huntington, WV, passed Oct. 26, 2023, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, WV, with family by his side. Leon, as which he was known by many, was born January 6, 1936, to the late Chester Arthur and Cora McGuffy Young. At 18 years old, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corp, in which he proudly served from 1954-1958. Following his return home from his time of service, he married Nancy Carol Adkins on March 27, 1958. They would later welcome their three children Jeff, Kim, and Jason into their lives, making their home in Lavalette, WV. Leon was a skilled flooring installer and the owner of Young's Carpet Service, working out of the Carpenters Local for many years. He was a long-time member of Buena Vista Lodge No 60, Masonic Lodge in Whites Creek, WV where he rose in rank and became a Master Mason. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed life to the fullest. He never met a stranger. His laughter, smile and sweet disposition were infectious. If you ever had a place in his life, just know that you were loved. His fondest memories were those of his grandchildren. They held a very special place in his heart. His passing will leave a tremendous void in those that love him most. He was preceded in death by his spouse of 58 years, Nancy Young, and one brother, Grant Murphy. He is survived by one daughter Kim Stewart (Steve) of Huntington, WV; two sons, Jeff Young (Tamie) of Concord, NC and Jason Young of Huntington, WV; six grandchildren, Carson and Jordan Young, Jacob Stewart and Bailey Stewart Smith, Josh, and Tyler Young; one great-granddaughter Kinsley Smith. Leon also leaves behind his "daughter by choice", Stacey Young of Huntington, WV; special friends, Steve Stewart and Terry and Donna Berry of Huntington, as well as a host of family and friends that he loved dearly. A private family graveside memorial will be held. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, Ohio is in charge of the arrangements.
