David Lee Harris' Obituary
David L. Harris (70), of Grayson, Kentucky, passed away on January 5, 2024. David passed as he had wished in his home in the hollow "holler", with his beloved dog (Sadie) by his side. David was born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia and was a graduate of Huntington East High School. Early in life, David worked at Connors Steel before finding his life's work as a tumbling coach. David coached numerous national champions and served as the tumbling coach for several championship cheerleading squads. He was named the USTA Outstanding Coach of the Year in 1986. His legacy and impact on the sports of tumbling and cheerleading are profound, but pale in comparison to the positive impact he had on the thousands of students he taught throughout the Tri-State region. David was known for his encouraging tone and the high standards that he had for his students. His big laugh, broad smile, and love for music lifted the spirits wherever he coached or socialized. David excelled at whatever he put his mind to whether it was coaching, archery, golf, bowling, hunting, fishing, or bodybuilding. He is survived by his sister, Patty Null, his son, James "Jimbo" (Trisha) Harris, grandsons Jacob and Cody Harris, stepson, Matthew Wilks, stepdaughter, Lindy Hoeft, nephew, Matthew (Nickie) Null, niece, Wendy (Patrick) McQuade, and countless friends that thought of him as family. He was preceded in death by his father, James "Boots" Harris and mother, Ada Beatrice Harris. David's wishes were to be cremated and his ashes spread in the "holler". A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, OH, is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at ehallfuneralhome.com.
