David Herbert Skinner's Obituary
David Herbert Skinner of South Point Ohio was born in Brocton, New York on May 1. 1940 and passed away in his home in South Point, Ohio on June 14 2026. He had been ill for the past several years and had successfully recovered from Lymphoma. However, he was unable to recover from the effects of the chemo therapy on his immune system and died from Pneumonia, sepsis and other related infections.
David is survived by his wife Phyllis Thomas Skinner who resides in South Point, Ohio, his son Allyn of Brocton, New York and his daughter Marla Brannan of Raleigh, North Carolina and his brother Jerry of Cincinnati, Ohio. David had 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren
David graduated from Brocton Central School in Brocton, New York in 1958. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1959 and served his country with distinguished honor during a career that ended with an Honorable Discharge 1n 1979. David was the designated “Honor Man” of his boot camp class in 1959 and was decorated twice for distinguished service and bravery during his career. He was deployed during the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. David was also at sea on the USS Randolph when his helicopter assisted in the recovery of the Friendship 7 Mercury Capsule which carried John Glenn to the first orbital flight into space on February 20, 1962. He had earned the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer at the time of his retirement.
Upon retirement from the US Navy David went to work for Pennsylvania Electric Co. in electronic communications which was his specialty in the US Navy.
David was a member and past-deacon of the Union Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Ohio where he taught adult Sunday School for many years and served his Lord faithfully in all he did.
David and Phyllis resided in a home that he designed and built in Pleasantville, Pennsylvania until they relocated to South Point, Ohio. They had been married for 62 years. David had just celebrated his 86th birthday when he passed.
There will be a memorial service 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 18th, at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake, OH. Visitation will be one hour prior. Condolences may be expressed at https://ehallfuneralhome.com
