Prayers from my family to yours.
I don’t know if anyone is still alive that would remember this except maybe Mike or Billy Jenkins. It was such a funny thing that the “real” Steve Stover and Danny Aliff got word that two teen girls were dressed like them for Halloween and made an appearance, laughing out loud on Buffington St. \r\nWell, kind of embarrassed, Diwana and I bolted down the alley to the house and cleaned all that eyeliner off and got into bed before Betty and her sister came home from bowling. Charles was at the VFW.
Needless to say, Chuck, laughing, brought the eyeliner to us.\r\nWhen we were done, we had plaid shirts on, her a pair of Levis and me a pair of Jag jeans on, whatever Reebok shoes we had then [could have been K-Swiss], biker bandanas on our heads, fake drawn tattoos and what appeared to be mustaches and beards.\r\nAt first we agreed to be Steve Stover and Danny Aliff for Halloween. At 14 years old, in 1986, we didn’t really know them. Diwana somewhat more did because Danny was long time friends with her brothers. They were older people that Betty said run from if they tried to talk to us. Just like she said if Herbie came up to us talking. [which he did once around 10pm near Billy’s Market and yelled for us girls to get the hell home. And we did.] So, listening to our little boombox cassette tape that had a duet of Hank Jr and Waylon Jennings, Diwana said “you can be Watasha and I can be Bocephus.”\r\nDiwana had blonde hair. I had dark brown.
Back in 1986, October 31st, Diwana and I were talking about what should we dress up for Halloween. Well, that was up until we took showers and started blow drying our hair. Back then, almost everyone we knew turned their heads upside down and dried their hair with a little bit of hair gel and/or hair spray. Aqua Net preferred. As we looked at the bathroom mirror in the house on Richmond Street, while someone was banging on the door trying to get in the bathroom [it was either Charles, Betty, Chuck or Mike. No, I am wrong. Charles would have been the last person we wanted to knock on the door] we took rubber bands and tied the ends of our hair in a small pony tail around our chins. We opened the door and while someone was cussing us cause they had to pee, we went “exit stage right” to our bedroom. I called it our bedroom because I was always there. Charles and Betty were Mom and Dad. Chuck, Tony and Mike were like my brothers. \r\nAnywho, Diwana and laughed and said, “who do we look like?” She ran out of the room and nabbed some handkerchiefs; one blue and one red. We tied them on our heads and took turns looking in the little cheap mirror in the bedroom. Then Diwana said, “watch this” and she used one of our black eyeliners to draw a spiderweb looking tattoo on her elbow. I said, “gimme here, I’m doing it too” but she wasn’t done and said, “the other one is in the bathroom Jill, go in there and get it.” I said, “hell no, you go.” So, we went back and forth until Chuck opened the door and said, “what are you two doing?”
My thoughts n prayers are with your family lady, you will be loved n missed by many
