Donald Lee Gossett, Jr.'s Obituary
Donald Lee Gossett, Jr., 71 of Huntington, W.Va., passed away unexpectedly on July 16, 2024. Don was born October 28, 1952, in Huntington, W.V., the son of the late Flossie Clark Gossett and Donald Lee Gossett. He was a graduate of Vinson High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a clerk typist at the Pentagon. He was a graduate of Marshall University with a B.S. in Education and M.A. in Clinical Psychology. He completed his Ed.S. at WVU and served as a School Psychologist, retiring from Cabell County Board of Education.
Don had a life-long appreciation for music and playing the guitar. He was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed restoring antique cars. He took pride in being a skilled handy-man. Don valued traveling with his family and creating meaningful experiences. He was a dedicated father to Mel and Allison, attending their many activities and coaching their soccer teams. His family meant the world to him, and he always supported them in everything they did. He especially enjoyed his new role of paw-paw to Keegan.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and mother-in-law Joyce Cogan. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Janice Cogan Gossett; two children Mel (Christin) and Allison (Commodore), a grandson, Keegan Clark Fraley, his brothers David and Duane, and sister in-law Carla Stone (Richard). Several nieces and nephews also survive. To honor Donald a memorial tree will be planted in Ritter Park. A gathering will be held to remember his life at Heritage Farm on August 11, 2024 from 2pm-4pm.
