She was born October 10, 1929 in Athalia, Ohio, daughter of the late Iddo and Earnestine Chapman Hayes. She enjoyed sitting on her porch and watching traffic and hummingbirds. She attended McKinley Chapel Church and was a charter founding member for the Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. Post 6878 in Proctorville, Ohio. She enjoyed quilting and made many beautiful quilts; she tried her best to teach her daughters. She also enjoyed working word search puzzles. A truly wonderful, hard working woman has gone home and left a void in many lives. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Charles Iddo, Reba, Donald, Thelma, and Elsie. She was a loving mother to her other daughter, as she so affectionately called her, Delana; a kind and loving mother-in-law to Steve White; a loving maw-maw to Jannell (Marcus) Rivera and Jennifer (Bill) Kazaleh and a loving grandma to her grandson Nicholas White. She also has one precious great granddaughter Hannah Rivera and one step-grandson Richard White. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, her sisters-in-law Ernestine Hayes and Carol Burcham, her very special friend and hair dresser Linda Fulks, and her friends Beth and Mike Boster and Brenda Mann. Dorothy had special neighbors and friends who helped watch over her. A sincere thank you to her nephew Melvin (Vickie) Jeffers for the love and care they have shown her throughout the years; Leeroy (Sheila) Ramey and family Dolly and Maggie, and Gary (Katie) Simpson for watching over her, which allowed her to stay at home as long as she did; and her cousin Evelyn Fritz that kept her company over the phone A special thank you to Dr. Apgar and the staff at Heartland of Riverview. A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens in Miller, Ohio. Visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the funeral home. Although flowers are greatly appreciated, memorial donations may be made to any animal shelter or rescue for cats in her memory and the memory of her beloved, Shaggy, or the charity of your choice.
