Dorothy Louise Mattox's Obituary
The greatest generation has lost another member, Dorothy Plott Mattox, 98, of Ona, WV formerly of Chesapeake, OH passed away Saturday February 10, 2018 at the Huntington VA hospital after a short illness. She was the daughter of Roy and Myrtle Helck Plott. She was born in Carey, OH on October 17, 1919. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, eleven of her twelve siblings, her husband John Mattox and one son Tommy Mattox. When Dorothy was 22 years old , she enlisted in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corp which became the Women's Army Corp (WAC). While serving as a cook at Fort Sheridan Illinois she met John Mattox. They were married a little over fifty years until his death. Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Christine of Ona, WV with whom she made her home the last thirteen years; one daughter-in-law, Juanita Mattox of Chesapeake, OH; one sister, Barbara Precinci of Carey, OH; five granddaughters, Amanda (Josh) Floyd of Ona, WV, Kelli (David) Cochrane of Pooler, GA, Shelli (Steve) Harbour of Huntington, WV and Sarah Mattox of Ashland, KY; five great grandchildren, Kobe, Trent, Nathan, Trevor and Lara. Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Schneider-Hall Funeral Home in Chesapeake, OH. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point, OH.
