Dr. Wm. Paynter's Obituary
Dr. Wm. Paynter 1938 - 2016
Dr. Wm. Paynter, of Proctorville, Ohio, passed away in the morning hours of November 1, 2016. He was of Methodist faith. He earned his Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral Degree in Social Studies Education from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He was invited to be a proud Phi Beta Kappa, and while teaching at MU assembled three Textbooks, plus earned a Principals High School license from COGS at Institute, WV. He taught at Marshall University from 1968 until December 2015. While his contract was renewed for 2016, circumstances beyond his control, and to his great sadness prevented him to teach his beloved students. As a young college student he originally wanted to earn a law degree, but found in undergraduate school that his great love was social studies education. While teaching social studies at Willis High School in Delaware, Ohio, he held a second job as night janitor at the Lenox factory in Columbus, Ohio. His salary as night janitor covered his books and tuition at OSU, while his teachers salary supported his beloved grandmother. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Dr. Sherry Paynter; his step daughter Shawn and her children. He was a good and truly decent man who will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall
