Durward Lee Callicoat's Obituary
Durward Lee Callicoat, 90, of Proctorville, peacefully passed away December 5, 2018 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington. He was born May 1, 1928 In California, Pennsylvania, son of the late Henry Franklin “Dutch” and Audrey Galloway Callicoat. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Alise Perry Callicoat; brother, Gary Joseph Callicoat; and son, Steven Lee Callicoat. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Correna Edwards Callicoat; sister, Joan Callicoat Burns; brother, Orlin (Bub) Callicoat; daughters Joni Piper and Julie (Eddie) Midkiff; son, Duane Callicoat; stepdaughters Connie (Jack) Gillette and Cathy (Brad) Forrister; stepson Jamie (Lisa) Shankland; grandchildren Alisa Piper, James Piper, Lincoln Piper, Caitlin (Ryan) Midkiff Davidson, Kirstin Midkiff, Janae (Will) Callicoat Richter, Daniel Callicoat, Abigail Callicoat, Hayden Forrister, Haviland Forrister, and MacKenzie (Logan) Shankland Britt; and a great granddaughter, Alise Davidson. Durward was a graduate of Huntington East High School and Marshall College. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Durward was an analytical chemist at INCO Alloys for most of his career, retiring in 1987 as Laboratory Services Manager. He was a member of Rome Church of Christ for 52 years. Durward became a master woodworker in his free time, and his handmade gifts are treasured by many. In his earlier years, he enjoyed learning electronics and was a Ham radio enthusiast. Durward was a true gentleman and was known for his kind, gentle spirit. Visitation will be held 1:00 to 2:00 pm Sunday, December 9, 2018 followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that you consider giving back to the community in the form of memorial donations to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington WV, Wee Shine Pre-School, Proctorville, Ohio for restoring of the playground or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
