Just last week, I shared one of the many fond memories I have of being in her second grade class 40 years ago with my teenage daughters. She always believed in her students, that we were capable of learning above our grade level and frequently taught us 'extra.' In so doing, she helped us learn to believe in ourselves, too. I felt so loved in her classroom. She will not only be missed, she will be remembered by the many lives she enriched. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. Gina McKee

My Aunt Edith was married to my mom's brother, Artis. They loved each other very much and enjoyed spending time together and traveling. Our family had so many wonderful visits through the years and we always enjoyed spending time with them. I loved talking to Edith and listening to her stories. She had a great sense of humor. I love her laugh and how she would get tickled telling a funny story. She loved her students and fellow teachers and would often share stories about them. They brought her so much joy. She gave the most thoughtful Christmas presents and I loved receiving cards and letters from her. She had beautiful penmanship and she always included a comic strip or a funny story that she clipped from a newspaper or magazine. She was kind, intelligent, and loved her family. She also had a great fashion sense. She always wore the prettiest clothes and jewelry. She was a remarkable lady and she touched the lives of many people. My family and I loved her very much and will miss her terribly.

Mrs. Adkins was my 2nd grade teacher at Chesapeake West. She was the first (of 2) teachers to paddle me. She told my Mother it hurt her more to it than it did me to do it. When my son was born in 1992, one of the first visits he had was to the school to visit Mrs. Adkins, who held him and introduced him to her 2nd grade class. She will always hold a place in my heart as a favorite teacher and favorite people. Rest in peace, Mrs. Adkins.
