So sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great youth group leader when he was here in IA. I have many found memories of that time.
I met Gary back in 2001 and he has been like a father figure to me ever since. He showed the Father to me in many ways through our countless conversations over the years. Over the past couple years, he and i developed a very fun tradition of hanging out at a downtown Huntington Mexican restaurant on Sunday afternoons enjoyed cheap beverages and chips with salsa while playing chess. I will greatly miss this tradition shared with Gary. Gary surely loved the Lord and had a great passion for serving the Lord. I loved Gary and his heart for the Lord.
I am sending thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Gary and I were related - cousins by our Mothers. My Mom was June L. Thornburg.🙏
Gary was a good friend and I admired his tenacity for the scriptures when we were young believers. He and Emily's mother (Linda) sang at our wedding in 1975. We had lost touch over years but reconnected on Facebook several years ago. I'm glad to have been his friend.
Emily, I knew your Dad when he attended Sanctuary of Grace church here in Proctorville. He loved the Lord and His Word and was, I think, a gifted defender of the faith among other things. He and I had some lively discussions, not always in perfect agreement (but who is) about some matter and if I may say so was always a 'worthy' opponent...that is, fearless in speaking what he saw in the Scriptures and well learned in the same. All the above are meant as compliments and respect to his memory, as he now joins that vast assembly in Heaven who rest in Jesus awaiting that Day when we shall see him again. He as, in the words of Billy Graham, 'changed addresses' but something of our Dads always remains with us...and may the Lord comfort you as only He can.
This is a really great man that I have known from Junior High School he will be deeply missed my all who knew him rest well my brother see you again someday

Emily we were good friends with your parents when they lived in Iowa. We had good times playing music and laughing. We are sorry, it's hard to loose your dad. We know we will see him again. Peace.
