Gary Leo Sowards Sr.'s Obituary
Gary Leo Sowards Sr, 82, of Proctorville, OH, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV. He was born July 27, 1943, in Huntington, WV, to the late Leo and Vada Mitchell Sowards. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Alice Sowards; one son Tracey Sowards; one sister Barbara Mitchell; and one brother Walter Owen Sowards. He was a retired electrician at AC&F Industries and was a member of Abundant Life Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran and a member of American Legion Post #93 in Kenova, WV. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at Silver Sneakers. Gary is survived by two sons Jack (Tammy) Sowards of Proctorville, and Gary (Trena) Sowards of Proctorville; one daughter Nesebeth Ann (Lee) Spires of Proctorville; nine grandchildren; Jessica, Jillian, Trevor, Casey, Amanda, Nathan, Tanner, Kyle, and Reilly; nine great grandchildren, with one more on the way, to be named Leo; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 12 P.M. Friday, April 3, 2026, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Hurricane, WV.
