George "Toots" Stewart Chafin's Obituary
George Stewart "Toots" Chafin, Chesapeake, Ohio, died peacefully, surrounded by his children, on Saturday, October 20 at River’s Bend Health Center in South Point, Ohio at the age of 91. George is survived by his children, Anna Cudd of Chesapeake, OH, Karen Robertson, of Columbus, OH, Gary (Mary) Chafin of Tipp City, OH and Michael (Jena) Chafin of Santa Clara, CA; siblings, Margaret (Walter) Lewis of Mt. Vernon, OH, John (Vernie) Chafin of Marengo, OH; Ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Ellen (Auxier) of Chesapeake, OH, parents Stewart and Anna (Lottes) Chafin, of Marengo OH, brothers William of Florida, Larry and James both of Marengo, OH, sisters Elizabeth (Gue) of Chesapeake, OH and June (Hinkle) of Clyde, OH. George was born on August 14, 1927 in Red Jacket, WV. He graduated from Magnolia High School in 1944, the same year he enlisted in the US Navy. He was honorably discharged as a Electrician’s Mate Third Class in 1947, the same year he married his bride, Ellen Auxier of Stringtown, KY. George and Ellen moved to Europe in 1953 when George worked for the Gilfillan Company as a field service representative, applications engineer and technical writer. They lived in Germany, France and England until they returned to the US in 1968. He remained with the ITT Gilfillan company for over 25 years. They moved to Chesapeake, OH in 1978 where he worked as a radar technician on the Ohio River tugboats until his retirement. A viewing is scheduled for 1 pm Wednesday, October 24th at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville, OH, a funeral service will follow at 2 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George's life.
