Gerald John Rogero, Sr's Obituary
Gerald John Rogero, Sr., 90, of Crown City, Ohio passed away Friday, April 5, 2019 at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. He was born December 22, 1928 in Jacksonville, FL son of the late Edward George Rogero, Sr and Annette Esther LaBrecque Rogero. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant children James Edward, Rita Louise, Carmel Theresa, Gregory Paul and Carolyn Frances; and six siblings Edward G. Rogero, Jr, Alfred J. Rogero, Rosemary J. Rogero Murphy, Leroy H. Rogero, Joan M. Rogero Garza and Stephen A. Rogero. Gerald is survived by his wife, Judith Rogero and her son, Woody Godby (Sherry) of Crown City, Ohio; his children from his first marriage to Anita Ghioto Rogero Waugh, Gerald John Rogero, Jr (Merdia Wilcoxson) and Mary Dolores Rogero (Marvin Merritt) of Dayton, Ohio and Madeline Rogero (Gene Monaco) of Knoxville, TN; eight grandchildren Gerald J. Rogero, III, Damian R. Pitt, Carmen R. Pitt, Ramon Merritt, Brea Merritt Smith, Carmen Merritt Scott, Brooke DeMoya and Tyler Godby; 17 great grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces. Jerry lived his first 12 years in the rural communities of Loretto and Mandarin outside of Jacksonville in houses without running water, indoor plumbing or electricity. This changed in 1941, when they moved into Jacksonville. Jerry and his siblings loved to tell stories about their life growing up in the country. The seven children got into a lot of mischief and played many practical jokes on one another. Jerry loved cooking, wood-working, hunting, fishing, boating and stock car racing. He also enjoyed archery and organized an archery club with over 300 members. He had a beautiful tenor voice and constantly sang around the house, at church, and occasionally in talent shows. He was a great dancer and loved to jitterbug. He lived many places throughout his long life, Wooster, MA, Eau Gallie, FL, Dayton, Ohio, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Tehran, Iran, Cincinnati, Ohio, Houston, Texas, Huntington, WV and the Maryland/DC area before settling in Crown City, Ohio for the past 28 years. Please join us in honoring the life of Gerald John Rogero, Sr by attending a memorial service to be held 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio with family visitation 5 to 6 p.m. and a public visitation 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Although Jerry was only able to be at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House for a short time, the staff made a lasting impression and treated him with the utmost care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House 3100 Staunton Road, Huntington, WV 25702 in his memory.
