Gladys Lucille Carter's Obituary
Gladys Lucille Carter, 88, of Huntington, WV passed away peacefully on Friday, October 26, 2018. She was born on May 18, 1930 in Logan, WV and grew up in Barboursville, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Pendleton and Douglass Garfield; grandparents, Octavia and Fred Sorrells; husband William Carter, Jr; sons William Carter, III, Dirk Shaun Carter; sister Wilma Harris; and brother Wilson Liggins. Gladys retired from Sears Roebuck after 30 years of service. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, Huntington, WV for over 50 years. She leaves behind to mourn her loss, her daughter April Carter Dawson of Canal Winchester, Ohio; sister Martha Georgianna Williams of Detroit, MI; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends Imogene Vaughn and Lois Jean Speaks. Also, surviving is her cousin Roy Goines of San Demis, CA who was like a brother. She attended Barnett Elementary and Douglass High School where she was a majorette. She was married to William "Bill" for over 70 years. Gladys was an excellent cook and made great fried chicken, potato salad, pineapple upside down cake, vegetable soup and droop along cake, which was William "Bill"s favorite. She will truly be missed by all. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2018 at First Baptist Church, Huntington, WV by Rev. Reginald Hill. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, WV. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ehallfuneralhome.com.
