Helen Carter Hurley's Obituary
HELEN CARTER HURLEY, 99, of Huntington, WV, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, October 19, 2012, in Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with Minister Jeff Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park. Helen was born December 12, 1912, in Nutal, WV, a daughter of the late Luther Calvin and Arminta Dorcas Dailey Shriver. She was a World War II Navy Veteran and retired from Anderson-Newcomb and Stone & Thomas Department Store after 30 plus years of service. She was the Primary Class Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher for 28 years, served as the church financial secretary for 26 years, and volunteered at Cabell Huntington Hospital for 19 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert D. Carter and Wilburn B. Hurley; three brothers, Clyde, Charles, and Harold Shriver; and one sister, Evelyn Lee Shriver Morris. Helen is survived by two nieces, Maxine Spevak and Dolores Ward; one nephew, Bob Fitzpatrick; and a host of other nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10 AM to 11 AM Wednesday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake, OH. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.schneidergriffin.com.
