James Earl "Skip" Hayes' Obituary
James Earl “Skip” Hayes, 91, of Proctorville, OH, went home to be with God and family on November 30, 2024, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 5, 1933, in Milton, WV, to the late Earl and Gertrude Martin Hayes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marcella Faye Crawford Hayes; one son-in-law, Bruce Shepherd; brothers, Garrett, Harry “Pete”, and Jerry, all of Proctorville, OH, and Oscar “Tud” Hayes of Chesapeake, OH, and one sister, Reba Hayes Crawford of Ypsilanti, MI. Skip retired from the Ohio River Company in Huntington, WV. He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Shepherd of Scottown, OH, and Bonnie (Bob) Lockhart of Proctorville, OH; one brother, Dennis (Mary Ann) Hayes of Proctorville, OH; 4 grandsons, Bruce, Derrick (Jo), Rod (Lori) Shepherd of Scottown, OH, and Robert (Skylar) Lockhart of Proctorville, OH; 7 great-grandkids, Allison (Austin), Brady, Hunter, Josie, Logan, and Dixie Shepherd, and Rowan Lockhart; 2 great-great grandkids, Braxton and Lyla Giles, and a multitude of nieces and nephews which he cared for deeply. He loved and devoted his life to family and friends and always tried to help in any way he could. Skip loved life and loved to laugh and joke with people. He always told us that you can never have enough friends so he would talk with everyone in hopes of making a new friend. Skip will be greatly missed by all his family. He was our rock. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville, OH, with Pastors Gordon Simpson and Ron Donahoe, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Rome Cemetery in Proctorville, OH. Condolences may be expressed to the family at ehallfuneralhome.com
