James Ray McComas' Obituary
James Ray McComas ("Jimmy"), age 63, of Chesapeake, Ohio, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family early Friday morning, February 23, 2024, after an extended battle with cancer.Jimmy was born November 23, 1960, in Dover, Delaware. The son of a career Air Force veteran, he lived in various locations throughout the United States and Europe through his childhood before returning to Lawrence County with his father, mother, and brothers.Jimmy graduated from Fairland High School in 1979. Some years after graduation, he made a career as a Commercial Driver, eventually purchasing two trucks of his own and establishing McComas Transport. Jimmy worked hard to run the business, but ultimately sold the trucks and joined the Teamsters Union in 2002. Due to his illness, Jimmy retired after 20 years with the Union.Jimmy was always the life of a party. His wit and humor never failed to generate laughter. His love for music, particularly on display when he picked up his guitar, was a blessing to everyone in earshot.Beyond his beloved guitar, Jimmy loved to work with his hands - even building his home in Chesapeake. He spent his spare time on various woodworking projects. His last completed project was a dining room table for his newly married youngest son and daughter-in-law. Jimmy was also a talented cook. His Mushroom-Swiss burgers were a family favorite, as well as his various deserts and candies he would whip up during the holidays.Jimmy loved his family dearly, working relentlessly to ensure they had all they needed. He had a stern but gracious way of leading his children through their mistakes and was always quick to remind them that he loved them and was proud of them.He will be immensely missed.Jimmy was preceded by his father James Eldon McComas and father-in-law Lyle "Mickey" James. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rebecca "Becky" McComas; his sons Zachary (wife Melissa), Caleb (wife Joanna), and Casey (wife Sydney); his daughter Lauren; his grandchildren Cameron, Kaleigh, Peyton, Harper, and Silas; and his great grandchildren Liam and Vivian.Jimmy also leaves behind his mother Marie Thiry, and brothers Todd and Paul, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, mother-in-law, four sisters-in-law, and his aunt Ernestine Dillon, who graciously provided care and support to him and Becky throughout his final days.Family and friends are welcome to attend visitation services to be held at Hall's Funeral Home on February 27 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Jim's funeral will be held February 28 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at ehallfunerlhome.com.
