James Garland Smith's Obituary
James Garland Smith, 99, of Chesapeake, OH, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Legacy of Riverview in South Point, OH. James was born February 7, 1925, in Williamson, WV to the late Garland and Ianthia Grace Smith.In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Smith, his daughter, Carol Lynn Smith and daughter-in-law, Cathy Smith.
He was born on February 7, 1925, in Williamson, WV, and was a truck driver. In the 1940's he worked with Civilian Conservation Corps, a voluntary work relief program.
Mr. Smith is blessed with a host of surviving family. Leaving behind to cherish his memory are Loretta and Laura Bell, Williamson, WV; his three sons, James H. Smith (Rosa), of Americus, GA; Johnny E. Smith (Janie) and Steve Allen of South Point, OH; nine grandchildren, Johnny Smith, Jr. (Janet) of Branchland, WV, Lonnie Smith (Teresa), of Kitts Hill, OH, Brandy Budd (Jamie), of Chesapeake, OH, James Smith (Tracy) of Florida, Billie Jo (Mike), of Americus, GA, Robert Smith, (Wendy), of Jamestown, OH, David Smith, Katrina Muncy (Ronald), of Columbus, OH and Maria Runyon (Levi), of Huntington, WV.
His nineteen great grandchildren are Lonnie E. Smith, of Kitts Hill, OH, Briar Runyon of Huntington, WV, Johnny Smith, III (Jenny, Tykeshia Spry (Josh), Anastasia Smith (Mike), all of Branchland, WV, Destiny Smith, Mason and Brayden Budd, of Chesapeake, OH, Zachary Smith and Ally Smith of Jamestown, OH, Ronald Muncy III and Carrinna Muncy of Columbus, OH, Mia Smith of Columbus, OH, Kierston Mazer of Americus, GA, Chris Mazer (Maggie) of Ellenville, GA, Landon Smith of Coal Grove, OH, Austin Smith of Bushnell, FL and Ashley Mazer of Americus, GA.
Also continuing the Smith legacy are his eight great, great grandchildren, Dawson Smith and Brynlee Smith of Bushnell, FL, Gracelynn Smith, Zayden Smith, Skylar Spry, Lacie Spry, Kaiden Pack and Raylan Pack all of Branchland, WV, and Ronald Muncey, III, of Columbus, OH.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 12:00PM at Schneider-Hall Funeral Home in Chesapeake, OH. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 10:00AM~12:00PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Williamson, WV.
