Janice Thomas' Obituary
Janice Coleman Thomas of Columbus died on April 2, 2024. Born in Logan on December 2,1932, she was the daughter of Joseph Warren and Hallie Ruth (McKibben) Coleman. Growing up in Crown City and Chesapeake, she was a graduate of Chesapeake High School and the University of Tennessee and attended classes at Ohio University and Bryan College. On December 31, 1955, she married Paul Austin Thomas. He survives. Janice loved children and served as a teacher at Hamilton Avenue and Huy Elementary Schools and was the director of the Living Christ Lutheran Church Preschool. In retirement Janice kept busy volunteering at Hospice and the Columbus Metropolitan Library, spending time with her grandchildren, and going on adventures riding in hot air balloons and ziplining. She loved reading, sewing, and playing the piano. For several years, she served as an organist at Living Christ, First Baptist Sunbury, and Ark Spring Baptist near Chandlersville. At First Baptist (now The Bridge) she led the senior citizens group Young at Heart on dozens of excursions. For many decades, Janice was an active member of the Proctorville Chapter of Eastern Star. She was a loving mother, and the best grandmother in the world. In addition to her husband, Janice is survived by a son Mike (Sara); a daughter Rebecca; five grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Samuel, and Emma; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by, and is now reunited with, her parents; a sister Mary Alice Schmitter; a brother Gary; and a granddaughter Sarah Anne Fairchild. Graveside Service will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, OH. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 P.M. at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, OH.
