Jean Elizabeth Johnson, 89, of Huntington, WV passed away peacefully in her sleep at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center, Huntington, WV on Monday, January 15, 2024. She was born April 21, 1934, in Montgomery, WV, the daughter of the late James Carl and Hardie Ray Johnson. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by all 13 of her siblings. Jean is survived by two children, a daughter, Sharon Spencer (Roy) and a son Kenneth Johnson (Vicki); a grandson, Eran Stenson; great-granddaughters, De'Shanay Stenson, and Jazmyne Johnson; and a host of nephews and nieces. She was a proud graduate of Douglas High School. Her favorite hobby was spending time with family. Most days she could be found socializing, eating, and playing games, at the Marie Redd Senior Center. She faithfully attended Sixteenth Street Baptist Church dressed up in her Sunday best with a matching hat. She was a longtime resident of Virginia Avenue in the West End of Huntington and had wonderful neighbors that became lifelong friends. She moved to the East End to become the caregiver for her grandson (Eran) when he was born and then when she became ill the roles reversed and he became the caregiver for her. Jean loved the Lord and was a fine example of a Christian Lady. Her smile and laughter will be missed by everyone. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. If there was a family reunion being planned, she would make arrangements to attend and would likely show up with a lemon pound cake. The family would like to express a special thanks to the 4th floor staff at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral service will be conducted 12 noon on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 16th Street Baptist Church, 1647 9th Avenue, Huntington, WV 25703 with visitation being held one hour prior to the service.
