Joe C. Thornburg's Obituary
Joe C. Thornburg, born October 8, 1933, joined many loved ones and friends in Heaven on Saturday November 24, 2018, at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland, KY. He was born in Lawrence County, Ohio to the late Frank and Mae Thornburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Wanda Layman Thornburg; one granddaughter, Bridget Hamlin, whom he loved dearly; two sisters, Frances Bartram and Daisy Haynes; five brothers Walther Thornburg, James Thornburg, Tom Thornburg, Charles Thornburg, and Don Thornburg; and several nieces and nephews. Joe is survived by two daughters, Pamela Thornburg and Vickie (Bobby) Hamlin of Kitts Hill, Ohio; grandson Justin (Courtney) Hamlin of Chesapeake, Ohio, with whom he had a very special bond; two great grandsons, Parker Hamlin and Hudson Hamlin, who brought him indescribable joy on even the worst days. Joe was in the security division of the U.S. Army where he served our country during the Korean Conflict. In life, he served our Lord and Savior through a ministry in music and worked hard to provide for his family. He retired from Inco Alloys International after 31 years. After retiring, he spent his time attending church, mowing his well-kept lawn, washing his cars and spending time with his family. He had a contagious smile, a beautiful singing voice and was a good husband, father, and grandfather. He loved God, family, his country, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio by Pastor Mark Fields and Pastor Todd Warner. Final resting place will be in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, Ohio, where military rites will be provided. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at the funeral home. Proctorville V.F.W. Post 6878 will conduct military graveside rites. The family wishes to thank Kingsbrook staff members from the Forest heights wing and physical therapy department, and his Hospice nurses for the loving care they provided him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice of Ashland. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ehallfuneralhome.com. Visitation HALL FUNERAL HOME
