John Paul Lewis' Obituary
John Paul Lewis, 83, of Scottown, Ohio, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 2, 2026, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. He was born November 4, 1942, in Scottown, OH to the late Paul and Fern Lewis. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Ezra and Opal Green; his sister, Sharon Wolfe; and his nephew, Jeff Watson. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, his best friend, Drema Green Lewis; his children, Aaron (Kara) Lewis and Abbie (Brian) Pannell; his brother, Robert (Cindy) Lewis; his grandchildren, McKenna, Walker, Lincoln, Olivia, Sara-Kate, Addison, and Marli; his special nieces, Courtney, Whitney, and Nikki; brother-in-law Steve Wolfe; and his special dog Frank, along with many other family members and friends who cherished him dearly. John was born and raised in Scottown and lived his entire life there. He was a proud graduate of Fairland Schools in Proctorville and went on to earn both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Marshall University. He devoted his professional life to Fairland Schools, serving his community as a bus driver, teacher, principal, and school board member. He was a lifelong farmer and absolutely loved being on a tractor in the fields and could talk about beans for hours. He cherished his animals, talked to them like people, and never saw a tree he could not name. John was a proud member and deacon of Guyan Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Scottown, which he helped build. He was, unfortunately, a lifelong avid Cleveland Browns fan, and enjoyed his Buckeyes, Reds, and Dragons. Above all, John treasured his family and his Lord. He lived his life by one of his favorite Bible verses, Micah 6:8: “Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly.” A funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, OH, with Pastor Jason Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Miller Memorial Gardens in Miller, OH. A visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at https://www.ehallfuneralhome.com.
