Joseph Lester Barnett's Obituary
Joseph Lester Barnett, 91, of Huntington, WV died Wednesday September 11, 2024, at Legacy of Riverview South Point, Ohio. He was son of the late Rev. Luster Estell Barnett and Thelma Warn Barnett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Paul; sisters Ramona Huff and Rachel Coty; and his first wife of 49 years, Anita Lester Barnett. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary Barnett; one daughter Deborah (John) Kelly of Fort Mills, S.C.; granddaughter Chrissy (Tim) Liescheidt of Charlotte, N.C.; great granddaughters Arlynn, Ari and Abbey Liescheidt; great grandson Ike Liescheidt; step-son Robert Jay (Rhoda) Osborne of Powell, Ohio; three step-granddaughters Lillian, Katherine, and Beatrice Osborne; grandson Scott (Evelyn) Henderson of Ellicott City, MD; two great granddaughters Mevie and Quinn Henderson; special in-laws and their families, Ken Huff, June (Don) Lester, Connie (Tom) Lester, Linda (Fred) Lester; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who were special to him. He graduated from Chesapeake High School, Marshall University with an accounting degree, and received a master's degree from Baltimore University. He also completed graduate work at George Washington University. He was a cost accountant for Norfolk Southern Railroad in Washington D.C. and Roanoke, VA. He sung with the Baltimore Symphony, later MU Choral Union and Fifth Avenue Baptist Church choir. He was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church and Homebuilders Sunday school class. Joe had served many years on the 1950's Chesapeake High School reunion committee. He had many hobbies including music, genealogy, and Bible studies. After retiring he moved to Huntington where he sang for 20 years with Saints Alive Choir going to nursing homes to entertain the patients. The family wishes to thank the many physicians of St. Mary's Medical Center, HIMG, Marshall University Health, Legacy of Riverview, Dr. David Apgar, and the staff for the care given. Visitation will be held 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio with the service to begin at 2 p.m. officiated by Rev. John Campbell.
