Judge Tommy Lee Thompson, 85, of Proctorville, Ohio died Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at home. He was born in Gallipolis, Ohio on July 20, 1934. He is preceded in death by his father, Vonley Clair Thompson, his mother, Cecile Pauline Read Obituary
Lavon and family. Please know that you and your family have my deepest sympathy. I spent three years with Tommy at OSU law school graduating with Tommy in the fantastic OSU Law School class of 1961. Tommy was a terrific friend and one of the hardest working and most diligent students in the class. Years later, after I returned to Columbus, I was able to meet Tommy several times over lunch. He was an outstanding lawyer and trial judge.
I tried one of my first jury trials in front of Judge Thompson in the 1980's. He was amazing to a young lawyer and taught me a lesson I carried throughout my practice as a trial lawyer when it came time to jury arguments, "Less is more." Tommy was just an excellent judge. I loved trying cases in front of him when he moved to senior status. He was fair, knowledgeable, humble and gracious to the lawyers and the jury. You couldn't ask fir a better jurist.

Tommy was a member of the Valley of Columbus for fifty-five years, coroneted a 33rd Degree Mason in September, 2000, in Pittsburgh, PA. and served our Valley well. The passing of our Brother from the cares and troubles of this transitory existence has removed another link in our fraternal chain that binds us together. May we who survive him be more strongly bound in the ties of friendship, morality and brotherly love.

I was very sorry to read Judge Thompson’s obituary in the Columbus Dispatch. I appeared before a Judge Thompson many times as an attorney and really appreciated the considerate and fair manner with which he treated everyone. My sincere condolences to his family.
