Larry Arnold Carter's Obituary
Larry Arnold Carter, 82, of South Point, OH, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley, Ironton, OH.
He was born on October 14, 1943, in Logan County, WV, to the late Arnold Carter and Lotis Carter West. Larry was also preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Lou and Peggy Sue.
Larry attended the Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, WV, for three years and later graduated from Chesapeake High School. He attended both Rio Grande and Long Beach Colleges and was a graduate of Morehead State University, Morehead, KY. Larry’s father, Arnold Carter, who Larry was so proud of, opened the Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery in South Point, OH and Larry continued to serve the Tri-State area until his passing. Often he spoke of the love, respect and admiration he had for his father.
Larry proudly served his country by joining the United States Air Force as a jet mechanic during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a true patriot.
Six months ago he professed his faith in Jesus Christ, and shared it with his life long friend, Frank. He said he was happy and had lived a good life but was ready to go. He leaves behind his treasured friends and employees, Joe Conley and NY-Thau Brown, who work tirelessly at the cemetery. Other survivors include friends, Diane, Paul Gamble, Sheila and Frank Combs, the Hall Family, Debbie, Mark, Jean Duncan, Rick and Kathie Gue, cousins, and of course, his buddy, “Peppy,” who was by his side as a most loyal and protective companion.
The wonderful care Larry received from the VA Hospital, staff at Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley, and Community Hospice was greatly appreciated. You were a tremendous help at a very difficult time. Thank you.
Larry will be interred next to his beloved father, Arnold Carter. Schneider-Hall Funeral Home, Chesapeake, OH, is honored to assist in the arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at schneiderhallfuneralhome.com.
