Larry Joe Davis' Obituary
Larry Joe Davis, 86, of Proctorville, OH, passed away on June 7, 2023, at the Hershel "Woody" Williams VA Medical Center. Larry was born on September 29, 1936, in Huntington, WV, to the late Thelma May and G.H. Davis. He was married for 59 years to the love of his life, the late, Dortha Bennett Davis. He was also preceded in death by six siblings Herbert C. Davis, Anna Lee Hensley, Lloyd Davis, Norman Davis, Edna Carpenter, and Lowell (Yogi) Davis. Larry was a 1954 graduate of Huntington East High School and enjoyed meeting his classmates for lunch monthly. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and U.S. Army where he spent time in Korea. He retired from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Huntington District. He was a lifetime member of VFW #9738 in Guyandotte where he served for many years as Chaplain for the Honor Guard. Larry enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds and Marshall Football. He is survived by his two sons Joe (Star) Davis of Raleigh, NC, and John (Beverly) Davis of Proctorville, OH; three grandchildren Joshua (Andrea) Davis of Proctorville, OH, Sarah (Jesse) Kitchens of New Hill, NC, and Hannah Davis of Durham, NC; and two great grandchildren Ian and Mia Davis of Proctorville, OH. Funeral Service will be held at 1 P.M. Friday, June 16, 2023, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, OH. Burial will follow the service at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to VFW post 9738 Guyandotte, WV.
